Betty White on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson

We’re counting down the days until improvisational TV queen Betty White makes her Facebook fans happy and hosts Saturday Night Live on May 8th .

You may think of her as Sue Ann Nivens from The Mary Tyler Moore Show but long before that, she was doing 33 1/2  hours of unscripted TV a week. Not to mention her other sketch comedy experience on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

In an interview that Betty did in 1997 for the Archive of American Television she talked about working with the true king of late night and it’s clear she loved Johnny. Their chemistry was electric in classic Mighty Carson Art Players sketches playing Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and Tarzan and Jane 25 Years Later.

Will her SNL appearance rival those days when Betty brought down the house with Johnny? Probably not. But it will still be fun to see everybody’s favorite Golden Girl doing what she does better than just about anybody… live TV.
