Kevin Clash Wins (Yet Another) Daytime Emmy

In all the hoopla about tomorrow’s impending Primetime Emmy nominations, it’s easy to gloss over the fact that the Daytime awards were handed out last week. If you’re not a soap opera or talk show fan, you might not pay them too much attention. But we didn’t want to let one particular honor just pass by unrecognized.

Fans of the little red monster, Elmo, may know about Kevin Clash, the not so little actor who provides the characters voice and soul. Well Clash’s win for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series for Sesame Street marks his 10th win in the category for bringing Elmo (and Hoots the Owl) to life. Thus, securing his place as the anti-Susan Lucci of the Daytime Emmys.

We recently edited an interview that Clash did with the Archive of American Television and marveled as he took a moment to slip on Elmo, and show how he gave the furry Muppet a personality that has been universally embraced. Check out the clip and then do yourself a favor, slip on some feetie pajamas, make a cup of cocoa, squirrel yourself away in a quiet room for a couple of uninterrupted hours and watch the entire interview at emmytvlegends.com. You’ll love every second of it.
