The Days of our Lives Celebrates 45 Years

Forty-five years ago today sand started sifting through the hour glass as The Days of our Lives premiered. This milestone makes it the second longest running show in daytime history (behind only General Hospital).

If you're a Days fan, be sure to visit the 45th Anniversary special features on the website. There are incredible classic photos from the early days of production (with some amazing pics of a very young and in love Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth). They also have cast interviews and links so you can purchase the anniversary books—A Secret in Salem by Sheri Anderson and Days of our Lives 45 Years: A Celebration in Photos by Greg Meng and Eddie Campbell.

But the best feature on the site is the Timeline. Click on any year and see what story line was unfolding on that day. We bet you'll be coming back for more.

We attended the red carpet event Celebrating 45 Years of Days of Our Lives on behalf of the Archive of American Television. We asked the cast how it felt to be involved with this special occasion. Here's what Peter Reckell, Louise Sorel, Suzanne Rogers, Shelley Hennig, Melissa Reeves and other had to say about the celebration.
