When dad brought home the Pippin LP in ’72, we had no idea how dark the show was. We ran around doing our best Bob Fosse jazz hands, singing “We’ve Got Magic to Do.” As adults we realized the musical about one man’s quest to find absolute contentment, ended in the dark conclusion that complete fulfillment is an impossibility. The only answer? Submit to the “Grand Finale.” Good light hearted musical theater. Just the way we like it.
