Red Carpet Interview with the Cast of "Modern Family"

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it over and over again until we take our final breaths. We are proud television addicts and we watch a lot of shows but we can’t remember when we last actually considered a new TV series worthy of legendary status. After all, it’s almost impossible in our minds for a show to be as good as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, or The Bob Newhart Show.

Our tastes have leaned toward reality programs in recent years. And while we enjoyed shows like Friends and Seinfeld when all is said and done, they’re not classics in the true sense of the word. To us, for a show to fit in that elite class, it must have lovable characters, solid storylines, lots and lots of laughs, quotable dialogue, and most importantly, sustainability. We want to watch reruns of a show 10 years after its run and have it feel timeless and be just as entertaining as the first time we watched it.

We know for sure that Modern Family meets our stringent criteria now and will, no doubt, be just as good when we circle back around to it a decade from now.

The cast and creative team behind ABC's
Modern Family gathered for a panel discussion and screening at the Television Academy on March 3. Emmy magazine's Editor-in-Chief Juan Morales asked them about their favorite family TV shows in this video that was shot and edited by the Pop Culture Passionistas for the Archive of American Television.
