Gossip columnists are reporting that Sandra Bullock has moved out of the home she shares with husband Jesse James and his children from a previous marriage this week, amidst rumors that he’s been having an affair. Add to that the reports that last year’s winner Kate Winslet and her husband, director Sam Mendes are breaking up.
As a result, everyone keeps talking about the Oscar curse. As the entertainment history books will show, many recent Best Actress winners have found themselves suddenly single not too long after bringing the little golden dude known as Oscar into their homes. Seems their not so self-confident other halves, couldn’t quite handle the new infusion of (albeit metallic) testosterone invading their space – let alone the fact that their ladies were now the most acclaimed and well respected women in the world.
So Julia Roberts lost Benjamin Bratt. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe split. And, luckily, Halle Berry got rid of Eric Benet.
But in retrospect, were these break-ups really loses?
After all, Julia Roberts went on to marry Danny Moder and have his three children. She seems pretty happy whenever she decides to show up and make a boat load of money for a small part in some high profile movie.
Sure, Reese didn’t last long with her rebound guy, Jake Gyllenhaal. But she got to date Jake Gyllenhaal – and that can’t be a bad thing, can it?
And would Sandra Bullock really want to stay with a husband that would “allegedly” cheat on her anyway? Haven’t we all seen enough Oprah’s to know that it’s better to know and move on, ladies?
So we say, embrace the Oscar Blessing. We know it will sting for a while, but you’ll be way better off on the long run.
