Nick Offerman’s Canoe Video

Slate magazine was the first to dub Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman the show’s secret weapon but most critics agree that he’s the very best part of what’s become a pretty funny sitcom. And we’re onboard the Offerman express. His mustachioed Ron Swanson is a low-key hoot that was made all the more deliciously entertaining when his musical alter ego, saxophonist Duke Silver, was introduced.

Many fans will be surprised to find out that in real life, Offerman is married to Megan Mullally. That makes them one of the funniest couples in Hollywood along with his P&R co-star Amy Poehler and her hubby Will Arnett. Really, Mullally’s still funny. Just remember her as Karen from Will and Grace not as he short-lived talk show host or the woman dancing around with a tub of man made spread in the I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter commercials.

But if you want to know something even more unexpected about Offerman, here’s a little known fact. He’s a canoe aficionado. The amateur woodworker was trying to occupy his time while Mullally was working on Broadway recently, so he decided to make a couple of the narrow crafts. When he contacted Bear Mountain Boats to get the plans and materials, they recruited him to help make a DVD about the hobby.

You can order a copy now for just $29.95. But if you just can’t wait to see Nick in action, enjoying his favorite recreation on DVD, check out the teaser here. Or you could always just watch him on Parks and Recreation every Thursday at 8:30 PM on NBC.
