Happy Anniversary Bob Newhart

On May 21, 1990 the final episode of Newhart aired. Not only was it a fitting sendoff for the hysterical series, it gave a major nod to Bob's previous hit sitcom The Bob Newhart Show.

Over the years, the show has earned the distinction of being called the greatest series finale of all time. And TV Guide ranked in among the Top 100 Most Memorable TV Moments of All Time alongside The Beatles performance on The Ed Sullivan Show and JFK's funeral.

It's not the only anniversary Bob is celebrating this year. 2010 marks his 50th year in show business, which will be memorialized with sold out celebration at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on June 1st.

Honor Bob today. Buy a Newhart DVD (the first season is available) or pick-up his 1960 hilariously funny album The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart (the only comedy recording to ever win the Album of the Year Grammy).

In the meantime, watch this clip from the Archive of American Television and see what Bob has to say about the legendary Newhart finale.
