EMMY NOMINATION SPOTLIGHT: Lea Michele

It really came as no surprise to anyone that Glee dominated the Emmy nominations last week with 19 nods. Equally as expected was the announcement that Lea Michele was on the list for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. And it wasn't the first time the actress was honored for a performance.

Lea made her Broadway debut in Les Miserables when she was nine. Before she was old enough to legally drink, she had been nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Spring Awakening. And just this year the cast of Glee won the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Ensemble in a Comedy.

We assumed that being a busy actress since childhood probably meant that Lea didn’t have the kind of high school experience that her character Rachel Berry enjoys at McKinley High. No dances in pretty floral dresses, no sleepovers with giggling girlfriends, and no after school activities. But we were wrong. At an event that we filmed for the Archive of American Television, Lea told us about her pretty normal teen years, and the personality trait she shares with Rachel.
