John Lithgow Wins Emmy Playing a Serial Killer on Dexter (VIDEO)

John Lithgow has had a very varied career, but mention his name and most people think funny. From The World According to Garp to Third Rock from the Sun, he has spent the better part of his career making us laugh. He even won three Emmys for the sitcom about the alien family exploring earth.

But recently he made a big departure portraying Arthur Mitchell, a serial killer on Dexter, a part that the actor said is the "gift that keeps on giving." Lithgow did creepy so well he just earned his fifth career Emmy for the guest starring role.

The internet has been buzzing since Saturday that he misspoke in his acceptance speech and thanked the wrong network (he said HBO instead of Showtime). But in this backstage press interview that we shot on behalf of the Archive of American Television, after acknowledging his faux pas, he focused on why winning the statue this time was so special.
