Yesterday we felt like we stepped back in time. Going to
Will Rogers Historic State Park in Brentwood, California will do that to a
person on a regular day. But on this particular sunny Sunday, the field that
serves as the front lawn of the ranch, was transformed into a 1930’s polo gala,
the inaugural Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic Los
Angeles.
The star-studded event was free to the public who sat on the
grassy sidelines and watched the stampeding players score. Minnie Driver,
Rachel Zoe, and Buzz Aldrin were among the celebs on hand who sat across the field,
sipping Veuve
Clicquot champagne and nibbling on mini chocolate cupcakes. DJ Tony Okungbowa from The Ellen DeGeneres Show spun tunes during the event.
Also
on hand were professional polo stars Rico Mansur and Nacho Figueras, who
co-sponsored the event. The battle of the field was powerful and poetic—unlike
any sport we’d ever witnessed before. We’re not sure that Veuve Clicquot will
bring polo back as a form of entertainment for the masses. But we can promise
that if you’re looking for an unusual way to spend a weekend day, you won’t be
disappointed taking in a polo match.
