Burbank International Film Festival Fundraiser
Plans are well underway for the 2011 Burbank International Film Festival. Submissions have been pouring in. Special themes like student films and women's night are formulating, and the staff has begun fundraising to support the festival. The first event of the 2011 season is set to take place on February 28 at Flappers Comedy Club.
We recently spoke with BIFF producers Brandon Scott Kurtz and Adrian Iniguez about the fundraiser. Iniguez told us that the first event is Legendary Bingo. He said it's "a trademark from the people who do Bingo at Hamburger Marys."
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and there's a donation of $20 at the door to benefit the festival. Iniguez said the show is all ages, "but we prefer 18 and over just because it's an adult thing and people might forget there are little kids in there."
Kurtz interjected, "You have to have a colorful sense of humor."
The fundraiser will also feature door prizes and a raffle including a Pasta Pomodoro gift certificate, a dinner for two at Barney's Beanery, jewelry from Whitney Howard Designs and two scripts from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Iniguez also noted, "We're going to have a celebrity ball caller. That's still in the works of who it is."
He joked, "So we're hoping it's an E- or an F-lister. No, we're hoping it's someone big."
In addition to the February Bingo night there will be another Bingo evening in March. They are also planning a benefit at board member Jeff Rector's private home in Studio City. Kurtz mentioned, "At the last event he had the cars from Transformers. He also had the DeLorean from Back to the Future plus he had flame dancers and jugglers."
