This Week's Inspirational Pop Culture Moments

A singer helps out low-income neighborhoods, some manly celebrities don skirts for a cause and a country star goes to the dogs. Here are this week's most inspirational pop culture moments.

Prince Gives Big to the Promise Zone

Prince might not know the proper way to spell “I Would Die 4 U,” but that doesn’t mean he underestimates the value of a good education. In fact he coughed up quite a bit of cash this week – donating $250,000 to the Eau Claire Promise Zone in Columbia, South Carolina. His purple-ness wasn’t on hand to dole out the cash but he sent his drummer, and Columbia native, John Blackwell, Jr. in his place.

The non-profit organization Promise Zone’s site explains that they are “a citywide grassroots coalition of community partners committed to doing “whatever it takes” to ensure all of our children are prepared to graduate from college and be successful in their career and in life.” And they’re part of a bigger project called Promise Neighborhoods, a national initiative to improve the “overall life prospects of low-income children and their families.”
