Something happened to us over the fast few years. Loyal and devoted Conan fans that we are, we were surprised that Jimmy Fallon snuck up on us out of the blue and became our favorite late night talk show host. We’re not sure how or when it happened. But one day we realized that we were biding our time during Conan, waiting for Late Night to come on — and way past our bedtime we might add.
We always liked Jimmy on Saturday Night Live. Seriously, what’s not to like? He always comes off as a totally pleasant, witty and unassuming kind of guy. But when we heard he was going to replace Conan, we didn’t give it much thought.
But he quickly found a groove in what can be a heavily scrutinized position. And once that happened he quietly became a superstar.
Part of his appeal for us is the fact that seems to be as big a fan of pop culture as we are. He’s not afraid to gush, he doesn’t mind being giddy with excitement and he manages to get people who seem way too serious to goof around a play a game with a dramatic actor.
One of the other key elements to our love of Jimmy is the fact that he’s managed to make the comedy song a viable form of entertainment again. What has seemed like a cliché for way too long, is now cool again.
If you need proof, then head to a record store if there still is one near you or iTunes tomorrow and pick up a copy of Jimmy’s second album Blow Your Pants Off. His first, The Bathroom Wall, came out ten years ago. The new CD combines original songs and some of Jimmy’s most famous parody tunes.
Fans of Late Night will recognize the Justin Timberlake duet “History of Rap” and the genius Tim Tebrow/David Bowie mash-up “Tebowie.” Other big name guest stars include Paul McCartney on “Scrambled Eggs,” Eddie Vedder on “Balls in Your Mouth” and even anchorman Brian Williams on “Slow Jam the News.”
The CD comes out on Tuesday, June 12. You can buy it on its own or pick up a special package on the disc’s official website. For $24.99 you can get a Blow Your Pants Off T-shirt to wear while you listen to Jimmy’s tunes.
And for $49.99 you can get the “Walk of Shame” package, which includes a T-shirt and cap bearing the slogan, a Walk of Shame digital download, a Blow Your Pants off CD and a pair of Sunstache Sunglasses. Unfortunately neither offering includes a carpet sample, but maybe next time.
Order Blow Your Pants off and tune in to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon weeknights at 12:35 am EST/11:35 Central on NBC.
And check out Jimmy's latest viral video with the roots and Carly Rae Jepsen, a cover of her tune "Call Me Maybe."
