L.A. is a car city, not a walking one. So we don’t get a lot
of time observing people on their way to work or class. And as a result, we’re
clearly missing out on commuter fashion.
We’re not sure if working-women are still doing the Mr. Rodgers switch from outdoor sneakers to indoor shoes. We don’t know what the most appropriate hand-covering choice is for fall—can grown-ups still wear mittens? And we clearly missed the backpack craze.

Lucky for us the New York-based website Backpack Block Party
has been scouring the streets of Manhattan, snapping photos of the ultra-efficient
satchels, loved by young and old alike.
Some are utilitarian. Others are fanciful. And a bunch are just grungy.
Our favorites are these funky monkey faces. We’ve been
having fun trying to guess which belong to true New Yorkers and which are being
worn by international visitors.
Check them all out at backpackblockparty.tumblr.com and let us know which are your favorites.
