Our Wishes for 2011 with a Pop Culture Perspective

Courtesy of ABC/Skating with the Stars

Each year at this time we reflect on all of our blessings and are infinitely grateful. But, being human, we always wish for more in 2011. These thoughts always lead to Steve Martin’s brilliant bit which begins with the thought, “If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.” And then quickly spirals into, “No, no… the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. No, no, who am I kidding! I mean, they're not gonna be able to get all those kids together! I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible! It's more trouble than it's worth! So, we reorganize: here we go. First, the sex — we go with that; second, the money. No! We go with the power second, then the money, and then the kids.”

But we do have a few simple thoughts that we hope for you and yours (and ourselves) in 2011, and of course we gave them a bit of pop culture perspective:

May you find Donald Trump-like levels of success.

May you travel to exotic lands like Keith Johnson on Man Shops Globe.

May your tummies always be full of sweet treats as yummy as a Top Chef: Just Desserts.

May you enjoy excesses befitting of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

May you discover the joy of sharing personified by Bill and Melinda Gates.

May your life be filled by music as harmonious as that, which echoes through the halls of William McKinley High School on Glee.

May you battle life’s little struggles with the strength of The Miz.

May you experience the unconditional love of family like the Pritchetts on Modern Family.

And may you glide through life being true to yourself like Johnny Weir.

Happy New Year, everyone!

See you in 2011.
