We’ll
always have a soft spot in our hearts for two of our favorite TV twins, Tia and
Tamera Mowry, from Sister, Sister. So
we were happy to talk with their younger brother Tahj about his new sitcom Baby Daddy.
Tahj is no stranger to television. He made his small screen debut in commercials and an episode of Who’s the Boss when he was just four years old. Of course he’s appeared on his sister’s sitcom and had his own hit show Smart Guy. But a few years ago, Tahj decided to leave Hollywood and go to school — playing college football on a full scholarship at Savannah State.
Now he’s back on TV in Baby
Daddy. Tahj plays Tucker Dobbs, whose best friend (played by Jean-Luc Bilodeau)
becomes an instant father when his ex-girlfriend drops of the daughter he never
knew they had on his doorstep.
Tahj described his wisecracking character, saying, “He has no filter at all. So
sometimes he says things that are very inappropriate and maybe not the right
thing to say at the right time, even if it’s to Ben’s mother, which is not
really the best thing to do to someone’s mom.
But it’s Tucker and he doesn’t care. He marks his food. He doesn’t like
people touching his food. He’s just a character man. He’s always getting into
trouble. There’s never a dull moment with Tucker.”
Of course Tahj is much less quirky than his on-screen
persona. That’s part of the reason that the 26-year-old actor has been able to
navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of a career in entertainment at such
a young age. He talked about why he’s already achieved such longevity, “It’s just picking those right roles
and saying no to things that you have to say no to and not saying yes to
everything.”
He also
credits his time away from Hollywood for his continued to success. Tahj
conceded that it’s been important to him to have “time to enjoy life.” That
also gives fans a chance to miss an actor. As he noted, “The fans heard I was
coming back to TV and coming back to sitcoms, they’ve been waiting for a while.
So they were so happy about it. And that makes me feel good that I’m giving
them something to watch every week.”
His
devotees have been able to establish a relationship with Tahj’s characters over
the years on his various sitcoms. As he noted, “That’s why I love doing
television because it’s something that fans and viewers can sit down each week
and get to know your character and get to know the show and get to know what’s
going on and fall in love with you all over again, like they did in previous
shows. I feel like it’s great and I try
to put a little bit of myself in every character that I do.”
In addition
to his successful acting career, Tahj also has a musical side. And even though
he’s too busy on Baby Daddy at the
moment, he has plans to explore that creative outlet in the near future. “When
I get a big chunk of time off from the show, the sitcom takes up a lot of the
time right now, but when we have a long nice break I’ll definitely be back in
the studio. And [I’ll] hopefully come out with an album really soon because it
seems like people are hungry for that, are wanting that which makes me feel
great because it’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a while now.”
Of course
now that he co-stars with Chelsea Cane on Baby
Daddy, fans are also wondering if he’ll follow in her footsteps on another
show — Dancing with the Stars.
As to whether or not he’d sign up if asked, Tahj remarked, “I probably would do
it. I probably would. I think I’d have a blast. It seems like it’s a challenge.
I’m always up for a new challenge. And, you know, obviously I’d win.”
Watch Baby Daddy on Wednesday nights at 8:30
